Hopi Ear Candles - Thermo Auricular Therapy

Detail

This treatment comes from the native American Hopi Indians, Hopi means people of peace and these candles are traditionally used as part of their healing rituals.

What are Hopi Candles?

Unlike a normal wax candle, the Hopi candles are light and hollow and do not have a wick. They are around 20cm long and are made from sheets of organically grown Flax which are dipped in Honey, Beeswax and therapeutic herbs including Camomile, Sage and St.Johns Wort. The Flax is then rolled into a hollow tube with a small filter inside and the candle is complete.

What Happens during a Treatment?

You lie on a comfortable treatment couch and relax whilst each ear is treated individually. The lit candle is inserted into the ear to the same depth as a finger would fit, and has a 'chimney' effect, drawing out any wax, dust, impurities and excess sinus fluid. The candles also help regulate pressure in the Inner ear and Sinuses as the treatment produces a slight vibration in the ear.

Nothing passes into the ear and whilst lying down all you are aware of is a gentle crackling sound which comes from the candle burning. Your ears are well protected by the therapists hands so you are not even aware of the heat from the candle.

Once each ear is treated the therapist massages around the ear and the back of the head and when both have been treated your face, particularly the sinus areas are massaged to relieve any pressure left and to relax you further. Your head will feel clearer and your relaxation levels are improved as well as the benefits to your ears and sinuses. Treatment time varies per person but averages around 45 minutes.

Who can Have a Hopi Treatment?

Adults of all ages and children over 10 can be treated for a variety of problems, with excellent results for treatment of:

  • Discomfort from pressure in the ears particularly when Flying or Diving
  • Excessive Ear wax
  • Migraine/ Headaches
  • Sinus congestion
  • Hay Fever
  • Some Hearing problems
  • Glue Ear (candles draw out the sticky substance causing Glue Ear)
  • Vertigo
  • Snoring
How many Treatments are Necessary?

It is perfectly fine to have an individual treatment, we recommend this so that you can try Hopi Candles out. For the best results we recommend that you have a course of 3 treatments. The second up to 14 days after the first and then the third can be up to 4 weeks after that. Regular maintainance treatments can be once every 2 months after a course. However you are totally free to chose how many treatments you would like and when.

You should not have a Hopi Treatment if you currently have a cold (wait up to 2 weeks after it is gone), have grommets in your ear or if you have an ear infection (wait at least a month after it is clear). If you have suffered from a perforated ear drum you should check with your doctor and wait at least 12 months. If you are at all unsure, ALWAYS check with your doctor prior to booking a treatment.
